Hernandez Valley, San Benito Co., Oct. 9, 1940, 2430 ft.
--I cross the divide (see p. 379) and go down the slope and along the San Benito River, crossing it repeatedly, to Hernandez Valley, where I collect:
No. 20,237. Chrysopsis
Many-stemmed, 9 to 13 in. high; gravel bed of San Benito River.
No. 20,238. Lepidospartum squamatum (Gray) Gray
This composite bush is 1 1/2 to 2 ft. high.
No. 20,239. Chrysothamnus nauseosus var. mohavensis (Greene) Hall Bush 3 ft. h.
I climb over the ridge west of Hernandez Valley to the headwaters of Lorenzo Creek, follow down Lorenzo Creek to the San Benito River, see nos. 20,240-2, thence along it, then over the ridge westerly to the northeast arm of Bitterwater
