--I stop under a Quercus lobata tree, on a little bench, half-way up the canon [canyon] for a mid-day lunch. I have forded the stream nearly twenty times to this point. Going up to the divide (headwaters of branch of San Benito River) I ford it 15 times more. I keep no count; but one is really moving up the stream bed and leaving it for only short distances on a hillslope or bench and then back to the canon [canyon] bed again.
