No. 19,938. Agoseris grandiflora 2 mi. nw. of Tiburon.
No. 19,939. Vicia [V. benghalensis]
Cor. [corolla] purple. Wings about as long as banner. Keel a little shorter than wings, its tips black-purple. Banner petal with a "claw" as broad as the lamina, a little contracted beneath the lamina. Lamina emarginate! Calyx membranaceous, villous, its teeth subulate, the upper pair the shorter.
Growing in dense thickets on a bank, 1 1/2 to 5 feet high by

--Suisun Creek, at bridge, just north of Basalt Hill (e. of Cordelia), along creek bank, the following species:

No. 19,940. Bellardia trixago (L.) All. With 19,939.
No. 19,941. Lotus subpinnatus Lag. Clay bank. Herbage whitish. Cor. [corolla] yellow. With 19,939.

Itinerary: Left Berkeley at 9:30; drove to Richmond (see p. 26 [261]), botanized on the flats, went on to the San Rafael Ferry. On the Marin shore took the road to Tiburon.

--Vaca Mts. It is remarkable how few shrub species are found in the Arequipa Hills! and yet so many low on the lower slopes and canons [canyons] of the Vaca Mts. at altitudes well within the range of possible altitudes in the Arequipa Hills. For example Eriodictyon californicum grows in Gates Canon [Canyon], outermost slopes (within 1/2 mile main Vaca Valley floor) at 320 feet!--Cont. from vol. 59, p. 245.
