on Funston Creek. The foliage seems very slightly clammy; rays 9 to 11 and 2-toothed; flowers yellow. At Funston's Mountain Mdw. which is a large round meadow. - one of the finest I ever saw - we had an elegant view of Mt. Kaweah and the ragged peaks to the west, part of the Sawtooth Range, and which farther southward lie at the head of Shotgun Creek, a branch of the Little Kern.

forest of Tamarack I ever saw - an almost pure forest of considerable extent and the trees many of them 5 or 6 ft. in diam. Saw a fine Jeffrey Pine 6 or 7 ft. through. Between Funston's Mdw. and the Big Arroyo were some magnificent Juniper trees 60 or 70 ft. high, the largest I ever saw, their tops intact. In the bed of the Kern this morning I noticed a Populus trichocarpa trunk 2 ft. in diam. Jeffrey Pines run from mostly 2 to 5 ft. diam.
