5_69 Aug. 9, 1900. sun had not risen. Rises for good in most places about 8:00 or 9:00. Sets at Gentian Camp at 3:30. It sounds well to say we started before sunrise! When the sun came over the canon wall, the branches of the great trees on the edge of the plateau, through the blaze of the orb of day shone clear white like tracery. Just below Chagoopah Falls we came to a hot spring. The source, under a boulder, was so hot that I could not hold my hand in it for more than 5 seconds. Four or five ft. below the water runs out |
