Mt. Whitney

White Mountain Range which is the northerly prolongation of the Inyo Range.

We left Foxtail Camp at 6:40 and Langley at 7:55. From Langley we reached the top in 2 hrs. and 45. min, i.e. at 10:40. Started down at 12:10. Got on our mules at 2:20. Reached Foxtail Camp at 3:10.

The name of the man from the esert side is Charles W. Whittock, Olanche, Inyo Co., Calif. I photographed his party in

the "pass" as he seemed so pleased to have the promise of a picture on Whitney.

The Tamarack is very pitchy. The juniper wood is also often exceedingly heavy with pitch. The Tamarack is everywhere - everywhere you get high enough.

The deer that we saw at Junction Camp was in the full velvet. There is often discussion as to when this occurs on a male.
