Arrived here at 6:30. A pleasant place to camp. It is sort of deserted clearing, with quite a picturesquely built small granery in the middle of it, situated on a small ridge running out towards the river from the road. We are now in the south side of the river and we have a view of the peaks of the Sawtooth Range. Our camp was beneath a cluster

- Mr. Hopping has had the good luck to see a great spectacle: a California Lion or Panther running down a deer, the Lion running along with a steady cat stride and the deer nearly winded with his tongue hanging out.
