Carlotta, Humboldt Co. Aug. 15 1936 [common names for] one species. Mrs. W. explained to a Civilian Conservation Corps Boy (FN: Boy Scout she said in 1937) that in Southern California our natibve laurel is called california laurel, in Humboldt it is called Pepperwood and in Oregon it is spoken of as Myrtle or Oregon Myrtle. This boy listened intently and then exclaimed: Great Poison Onions! Don't those floks up there know anthing at all!!".
