half-a-foot to three or four feet high. Nor was it so
much the distance of the fall as the abruptness of the slope of the mountain. It is also a wonder that she stopped rolling where she did. Below she might have gone with greater rapidity for 200 feet or more. I presume that in reality the heavy pack saved her body and sides and when

was broken, the canvas kyaks injured by some of the straps
pulling out - but not seriously. My bottle of ink was broken, when I opened the bag, the bottom of the bottle was out but a little ink was in the neck of the bottle which was upside down! This I promptly transferred to my stylo! where the ink is gettng low.
As a matter of fact we have come out of a serious adventure very luckily. And we trust we shan't have another such one!
_ On the way up we were crossing the South Fork on
the hither bank we met J.N. LeConte and Miss Gunnpertz.
