Giant Forest
No. 677. Allophyllum integrifolium (Brand) A.&V. Crane

Fls white, (not pure white); lobes of corolla entire; limb 1 2/3 lines broad;
fl. 3 1/2 lines long.--Pine forest

No. 678. Cryptantha simulans Greene.
Same as small fl. sp. coll. lower down no. 664a? Corolla limb 1 line wide or a trifle over, its throat with a circle of evident crests partly enclosing it.

-In speaking the cones of Pinus Coulteri and their great size Mr Stone remarked about the long hooks on the scales: "they curve so that one can stick his finger under the hooks and carry them along."

No. 679. Potentilla lacteal Greene. Fls [Flowers] white, with a suggestion of creaminess. Corolla 5 to 9, commonly 7 or 8 lines broad. Petals orbicular (sometimes broader--slightly--than long), 4 lines long on the average fl [flower]. Stamens in 1 row, 22 to 26. --Round Meadow. Stems clustered from a low branching base.
No. 680. Veronica serpyllifolia var. humifusa Vahl. Stems decumbent at base. Corolla 2 1/2 lines broad, white, the upper half with pinkish veins. Upper lobe largest; middle lobe of lower lip small; tube inside slightly hairy. Lower pair of stamens wanting. See p. 52 infra.
--Note on Sidalcea [from p. 5] Stems either erect or with a rootstock like a decumbent base running into the woody crown. No. 675.
