July 7, Saturday Remained in camp all day drying out plants and building a fire under a kettle of hominy which I managed to burn most readily. However I compensated somewhat for this ill-luck by making most tasty and light corn-bread for breakfast.

Under the North Dome
Party of hunters camped here. One tells me about two interesting plants growing in the Valley: - branching plant, as much as 6 ft. h., yellow flowers from the ground up; grows on the white alkali where "not a living thing else will grow"; bad smell, rank smell; bees frequent it greedily; great bee plant; blossoms but once in 2 years. This is regular. "Not as much of it last year". This year very plentiful. = Wislizenia refracta. Specimen 5 ft. h. sent. - Aug. 1900 -Another plant he described as growing
