Mr. Upham & Mr. Gibbons tells me of half-a-dozen groves of
Sequoia between Giant Park and Horse Corral Meadows; i.e. a few miles west of Horse Corral Meadows. Some this side of Boulder Creek.

Mr. Upham (of Payot Mr. Upham & Co. SF.), Mr. Walter Gibbons, a nephew of Dr. W.P. Gibbons, and Mr. Kale, all
University of California boys are in the cabin. They have just come down from Bubb's Creek, having failed in an attempt to get over Harrison's Pass to Mt. Whitney. Was very glad to meet them as we had seen no one with whom we could talk for nearly 3 wks. They gave us news of the nomination of McKinley & Roosevelt.
