Giant Forest. 1900

- Perfect showers of cones from the Sequoias in the early
morning _ rattling down on our tent and on the ground.
The squirrels are busy! Cutting of the greenish ones and eating the seeds out on the ground.
It is a wonder that ever a seedling comes up. The grove of seedlings at the north end of the meadow comes up from and along the summit of a fallen Sequoia!

Mr. Stone says that the Gray Squirrels eat the nuts out of
the 1 yr. old Sugar Pine cones
