--Brandegee, K., Ms. B. gave up her life to the gratification of animosities. It would be better to put it in this way. She devoted her life to attacking the work or activities of other botanists, or pseudo-botanists, as she called them. She got her satisfactions and pleasures in life from doing this. She did it whole-heartedly and enthusiastically. Naturally, she did it very effectively in a way, at least so as to hurt as much as possible and to create as much publicity as possible. Such a policy naturally led to antagonisms and hatreds. Her hatreds were deep, lingering and venemous; they had the full essence of malignity.
