4_190 __Visalia. July 30 & 31 supplies. Stopped all night at the Palace Hotel, ate like a starved man at the hotel table packed up my dried plants and left them until my return from Whitney, had some ice cream with Mr. Hopping; interviewed by a _reporter_ of the Visalia Daily Times, Mr. Maddux, the editor; bought some fresh clothes, etc. and the next morning went back in heavily loaded stage to Three Rivers. |
4_191 ___Three Rivers, July 31. There I found Mr. Stone, my companion, suffering from toothache. He decides not to take the Whitney trip and will go out on the stage in the morning. We, Mr Hopping and I, start into the mountains at the same time. Hurrah! We shall soon be off again! |
