"Redwood" Sequoia gigantea grove about 1 mi. below Soldier's camp at [Weishar's] Mill. So an old-time packer says: "You can tell a Cedar by its flat leaf and a "Redwood" by its round leaf." The trunks to the novice or to the layman often look alike.
One never heard of a mule dying, unless he fall off a cliff and then he may not get hurt. Do not tie your mule to a rotten limb.

Atwells Mill Cut Sequoia gigantea -Big trees trunk, 500 yrs. Rings 25 to 1 in. outer half of trunk. Trunk 68 in: diam At center about 9 to the in. Trunks in cross section red with a margin of white. Trunk 32 in. radius had a white margin of 4 in. Other larger trunks margin of about 1/15.
Fine view from here of Sawtooth. Long granite ridge with a sawtooth at one end pointed towards the main ridge. Below a similar red mountain with a sawtooth.
