Had met him before at Carroll Creek. Stopped for a moment's chat. At last said he: Are you botanizing? Then I had quite a talk

with him and found him much interested in my work. So it has been constantly. Scarcely a person I meet on this
trail but asks: "Are you a botanist?" Or "Are you
botanizing?", and appreciate or at least understand
what I am about. Tourists, mountaineers, prospective
rangers, packers, what not. Said Cox, in parting I'd like
to camp by you for a week! He was plainly an Englishman.

The blazes on the Hockett & Whitney Meadow Trail are
mostly long & narrow.
