4_109 Kearsarge Pass, July 15, 1900. 12,500 ft. - Can see indistinctly the San Joaquin Valley on the west, lofty Inyo Range in the east and look down 7000 feet into Owen_s Valley. Nevada or desert side looks weird. Lake just under the Pass on Owen_s side, green and amethyst at margin to deep blue in center; snow lake; no outlet. - From the camp at Bullfrog Lake up into Kearsarge Pass, see p. 199 seq. wet as well as damp earth can often be freed from roots by snapping with the finger when it cannot be pulled off. Throw into your sheet single flowers when making a spm., especially if they grow in clusters as Castilleia. |
