anizing over the sand-dunes and hills south of Jaffa. We came first to a Mohammadan graveyard where the botanizing was excellent. Then along the sand hills north, finding several characteristic sand plants (nos. 10,794, 10,806, 10,812), etc. Then we struck inlsnd to the Nahr el Audscha (Nahr = river), a considerable stream, then back to Tell-aviv. On the way, a fine_ Zizyphus spinachristi. For the plants collected on this excursion, see nos. 10,980 to 11,023.

shrubs and Eucalyptus species. And in every case the seed came from California! even the Cedrus libani. He had ordered seed from Sicily--but found it utterly untrustworthy as to name.

I came by motor from Jaffa to Jerusalem. The plain near the coast is highly cultivated. The fields are often bordered with hedges of Acacia Farnesiana. Then came next a rolling plain country of wheat and barley; then we entered the rocky hills and ascended gradually and then down into a broad gorge, then up again. It has now fallen dark and ahead I can see the lights gleaming on the Mount of Olives. I reach the American School of Oriental Research at 6:30 p.m., Mar. 23, Tues. and receive a welcome from Mrs. Albright and later from Dr. Albright.
