- Altho it is such a dry year the flowering on the rolling gravelly plains north and east of Sweeney Creek is quite remarkable. Here is where the natives hold out the best against irrigation and aliens. Fine colonies of Calochortus luteus were everywhere, some 300 to 400 yards long, the stalks thick enough to make the place showery gold in the sunshine.
