It is single-stemmed and strictly erect. = var virgata (Eastw.).
- One has from the Bolinas Ridge camp a very fine view westward
- taking in Bolinas Bay, Inverness Ridge, Farallone Islands and the Pacific Ocean.

Feb. 3, 1924
- As we came down into the Alpine Lake hollow a flock of sober-silvery-gray birds about the size of turtle doves were flying in the ca_on, with a swift flight, suddently [sic] changing direction with great precision like a flock of swallows. They settled in a Douglas Fire [sic] tree and their revolutions were at an end for us. On the Portero Meadow Flats crows were calling and later we saw a very large number of them winging their way homeward over Lake Lagunita.
