San Joaquin City, San Joaquin Co. Continued Grindelia, no. 10,297. See p. 133. Rays 23, 27. Rays short, the ligules 2 1/2 lines long. Pappus - bristles 2, at the laterla angles. No. 10,288. Eragrostis hypnoides B.S.P. This grass is prostrate in the river bottoms. - Cont. from bottom of p. 123. From Tracy we drove southeast to the old site of San Joaquin City. The steamers once ran to this point on the San Joaquin River. We botanize in a river bottom about 1/4 mile from the bridge over the river. See. p. 131. - Cont. from p. 126. Mollugo, no. 10,282. Stamens hypogynous! Heads 10 to 11 lines broad. Involucre low or depressed urn-shaped.

Oct. 22, 1923. Cont. from p. 125. Bidens frondosa L., no. 10,279 Rays minute, the ligules completely hidden by the broad inner bracts of the involucre. In some heads the rays appear to be obsolete. - Cont. from middle p. 130. We collect at this point: nos. 10,280 to 10,288. We then drive on south to the Pike ranch, formerly Okeley [Oakley?] Ranch, a great ranch bordering the San Joaquin River a few miles north of Grayson. See p. 133. - Cont. form p. 123. Bidens. no. 10,267.(8) Rays 8,8,8,8, the ligules 11 lines long. Bracts of inner involucre with somewhat spreading ovate thin tips about equaling disk, but not a great deal. Outer involucre distinctly surpassing disk. Awns to achenes mostly 3, rarely 4. (Ligules of plants in the slough apparently 1 to 1 1/2 in. long.) Heads nodding in fruit.
