nothing but pines but the grove as a whole with oak, madrone and tanbark scattered through it. Rather open growth. Trees ranging fomr 70 to mostly 80 feet high, numbers 3 to 29 inclusive. Trees with straight persistent trunks.
Old trees seem to [lose] their leader branch, often with short very crooked [flexuns] effects to a flattish crown. Trunks if branching low down, branch at or within 1 or 2 feet of the ground.

- Ribes menziesii var. leptosmum - No. 503 filaments distinctly exserted; petals variable as to apex, sometimes distinctly acute sometimes almost truncate. = R[ibes] subvertitum [Hook. & Arn.] = R[ibes] leptosmum Cov. - mere forms of menziesii
- Alder (A[lnus] rubra); stamens 4, or at upper end of ament 3, in a flower. Full grown trees mostly about 60 or 65 feet high! At 4 feet from ground: Number 1 - 8' 6" - 55 feet high 2 - 5' 6" - 60' 3 - 3' 6" - 65' 4 - 5' 9" - 60' 5 - 4' 7" - 60' 6 - 8' 9" - 50' 7 - 4' 3" - 75'
