High Prairie Creek. Del Norte Co. In the Redwood itself the undergrowth makes a formation which I have described but the type varies. We ran into a forest N. of Wilson Creek where for six miles Rhododendron californicum was the dominant on the floor. I had never before seen so much of it nor such large individuals--up to 26 ft. h! When this is in flower in June the woods are very beautiful says Mr. Tracy. No. 9344. Erechtites prenanthoides D.C. Australian Fire-weed. 8 Aug. 1921 -Cirsium lanceolatum [vulgare] Common at Crescent City. 3 to 6 ft. h. -Erechtites near Ft. Dick (same as no. 9345.) -Cirsium arvense L. , Canada Thissle [sic], more or less common in opens all way from Eureka to Crescent City and at both places. 4 to 6 ft. h. -Leaving Crescent City we went n. on the Smith River road, passing in succession Lake Earle School (Lake Earle being on the labels of Davy), Fort Dick (a hamlet), Rowdy Creek Smith River lower, then after a few miles we stopped to botanize and collected the following: No. 9348. Brunella=Prunella vulgaris L. var. lanceolata (Bart.) Hult.
