Vallecito, rocky traverse at head of (La Puerta)

Hoods dull white; cor. yellowish white.

No. 8634. Pentstemon clevelandi Gray.
Stems several from the base, 14 to 21 in. h. Cor. crimson; its lobes shortly round-ovate, obtuse, spreading, the 3 lower divergent, the 2 upper nearly parallel. Fils. & style glabrous, the sterile fil. short-bristly at apex on upper side. Anthers kidney-shaped.

No. 8635. Ellisia = Eucrypta chrysanthemifolia Greene, var. bipinnatifida Constance.

white upwardly pointed hairs. Style shortly 2-cleft, the stigmas small, terminal. Ovary resting on a thin yellowish disk.

Calyx of 4 somewhat boat shaped membranous sepals purplish on upper third and long-ciliate on entire margin. Ovary very smooth and shining, as if it would become glassy-surfaced in fruit. Stigma minute. Style none. Stamens 4, with very large anthers. Shade of rocks.

No. 8636. Tillaea erecta H. & A. var. eremica Jepson.
This sedioid plant has 4 fleshy ovate attenuate sepals, 4 thin lanceolate attenuate pets., 4 stamens, 4 distinct carpels with 2 seed in each. Granite sand t base of rocks.

-The rocky cross ridge or traverse which separates the Vallecito from Mason Valley we find to be a wonderful botanizing spot at its lower or easterly base. Many things find semi-shade under the rocks and are protected from cattle.
