-Running on up the Salinas River valley the color spots were made mostly by Baeria and Platystemon. Spring flowering is in full swing and the country is very beautiful.

No. 8438. Phacelia ciliata Bth. with 8436.

-We pass thru San Ardo and stop for just a few moments to view the mission at San Miguel. We camp in a grove of oak trees on a bit of mesa overlooking country eastward. All the way from San Miguel to Paso Robles the country east breaks down into very low hills an [and] valleys and one for the first time in running up the valley has a far view eastward.

-The night is clear and beautiful, but by 6:00 a.m the next day high fog is over all and it is keen and cold.
