31_64 Tuttletown, 30 May 1915 ---------- On the way back we passed Montezuma Flat, then Whiskey Hill, then off to Quartz and Stent, at which latter place we saw bucking horses rode. Then to Jamestown again, on to the Rawhide, Omega and Rappahannock Mines which lie on the Mother Lode, on to Tuttletown, through very beautiful, country, very beautiful indeed; it was almost an ideal Bret Harte day. The loveliness of spring is over all; the fields are very full & rich & heavy with oats, barley or wheat just before their maturity; these finished fields, so finished and even, are in lovely contrast to the wild growth of the rocky slopes and ridges. 31_65 Jamestown, 30 May '15 ---------- still set up very fine meals which had a genuine reputation with travelers. A very picturesque old stone store with iron doors stands near it; at its side is a flower garden and over the old wall climbs high English Ivy. There was in the party, Mrs. A. [?] L. Grant; Dr. Helen Gilkey; Mr. Wahl Zindars; myself. |
