31_48 Columbia. 2200 ft [Tuolumne Co.] ---------- No. 6280. Lathyrus sulphureus Brew. Flowers 12 to 15 in a rather close raceme. The species is remarkable not for, so to speak, its small flowers, because they are not small [save as?] the shortness of the banner makes them small. The banner does not exceed, or scarcely, the wings & keel. The free portion, i.e. the exserted portion, of the keel, is bulged or rounded a good deal and very blunt, its point very much inturned. 31_49 May 28, 1915. ---------- spicuous for its sordidness. The corolla parts are perfectly glabrous! The 3 lower calyx-teeth are slender, the 2 upper very short and turned in towards each other. Banner at most retuse or scarcely so. See p. 78. No. 6280A. Lathyrus [Jepsonii ssp. californicus] Raceme few-flowered. Corolla with large banner exceeding wings and keel. The keel is more pointed than in 6280. Corolla does not turn sordid quite so quickly as in 6280 Banner notched, suffused with pink & veined. Keel wings white! See 6344.
