31_186 Barstow ---------- Bernardino paper, (Daily Sun) 16 Dec. 1915 -- says that this shrub is to be the source of raw material for a new and large manufactory of chewing gum, -- at Phoenix; and another plant at Goldfield. Nothing is said about the part of the plant employed. - Marrow-fat Weed? A plant of the Mohave mentioned by Mary Austin, The Flock, p. 79. - Bitter-brush? Eastward in the desert "where the sage gives place to the bitter-brush", p. 96. l.c._. - Holodiscus discolor var. of the high Sierras is a browse for sheep. - "Taboose".
