No. 6436. Antirrhinum vagans Gray. Upper lip strictly erect, cleft into 2 lanceolate lobes, the lobes turned back to back so that the upper lip thus looks like a slender lanceolate point sticking up. This upper lip is very small relatively to the corolla as a whole, i.e., the lower lip is much larger. Each filament, at apex, with a lateral mug-like [?] dilation or appendage, those of the lower pair smaller. Distended palate of lower lip glandular-puberulent, a pair of "lines" running down lower side of tube, these lines each consisting of 2 or 3 rows of rather short gland-tipped hairs. Lobes of lower lip roundish, crenulate-undulate a little.

Style and upper portion of ovary glandular puberulent decidedly; lower half of ovary quite glabrous. Flower 4 1/2 lines long. Outside of upper portion of corolla pilose. Upper lip straight, at right angle to tube. Upper calyx-lobe twice size of the lateral and lower, fully as long as tube and longer than the other 4. Calyx pilose and also with short gland-tipped hairs. Corolla whitish with dark-pink lines, esp. strong on upper portion of tube and upper lip. The lower lip stands squarely against the tube mouth closing it at right angles. Flowers solitary, at right angles to stem or nearly. Style tapering upward into the minute stigma.
