Ord Mt. 4954 ft Summit see p. 34
- Yucca mohavensis. Mostly about 4 ft. h. about Ord Mt., sometimes 6 or 7 ft. The single column dies back and sprouts arise 2, 3 or 4 from the base or near the base. This vegetative reproduction apparently continues indefinitely. The leaves are 1 ft to 3 ft. 1 in. long. They turn down as they grow old, die and form a dead bush about the stem. When there are several stems clustered and 1 or 2 are dead one can make a grand quick hot fire very quickly. The yuccas are often used as signal fires for this reason.
See p. 36, p. 40.
