but over and above this was the man. He took good care of his teams and kept steadily and persistently on, wasting time nowhere, so that this little caravan, forging across country with a fixed determination, awakened my admiration and interest. It is seldom, indeed, that one sees such traits, in this way so plainly exhibited by a member of the native tribes.
