Stems many from base decumbent, or prostrate with ascending or erect ends. Fls. white!

Fls. white. Hillside. Note that the central axis first flowered, that the stem was simple and flowered and matured its fruit on the basis of the leaves upon it, that the inflation of the central axis probably came later when there was proliferation of leafy-based flowering stems from beneath the fruiting raceme.

- Banning is an attractive town in the pass, clean, well built and with fine orchards of apricot and peach surrounding it. We came on west two miles and looked out over the Beaumont county, orchards to right, to left a gentle hillslope, all straw-yellow, with grain, in the late afternoon sun, - a beautiful sight, that kind of wonderful light soft tan-color when the grain is nearly ripened. We bowled on down a half mile to a small arroyo, camped on its bank and cooked supper in the arroyo. We went on next morning at 5 a.m.
