Fls. in a bisexual spike, the female at base and few, staminate flowers with 4 parted scarious calyx and two stamens, the anthers with two broad somewhat [?] divergent lobes. This flower is in the axil of a scarious bract and laterally subtended by two stalked glands. The pistillate flowers are likewise gaurded [sic] by two laterally placed glands, these glands are trumpet-shaped rather and the [male] ones are smaller editions.
