It is a name widely used in California for Heteromeles arbutifolia. cf. Zelia Nuttall, in Litt. 31 Aug. 1920.

Islay.
There is an Islais Creek near S.F. [?San Francisco?]
This name is used widely for Prunus ilicifolia.
