28_104 Species Attributed to Cal. [California] by Eastern Authors. Radicula sphaerocarpa in Cal. acc. Britton. Radicula obtusa in Cal. Ill Fl. 2:161. Kallstroemia grandiflora in Cal. acc. Rydberg N. Am. Fl. [North America Flora] no spm. [specimen] at N.Y. Bot. Gard. acc. M.R. [Hour?] in litt. [literature] 932 or 1931; none at Washington (Nat. Hb. [National Herbarium]) acc. J.H. Kearney. Gaillardia aristata in Cal. acc. to Piper. Arabis ludoviciana C.A. Mey. Pt. Loma acc. Syn. Fl. (D. Cleveland). None in the U.C. hb. [herbarium]. I suspect misidentification, or a casual adventive. Parkinsonia aculeata by Dayton in Important Western Browse Plants, p. 79. I wrote him, about 1931, but his letter was unsatisfactory. He knew of no definite station in Cal. [California] and appealed to the vague records of the early southern surveys. Hoffmannseggia drepanocarpa Gray. attributed to Cal. [California] in Wooton & Standley, F. U. Mex. 333. I wrote to Standley about 1921-or maybe several years earlier or later, but never heard from him. Pinus edulis. Attributed to Cal. [California] by J.C. Nelson, but his letter in reply, while pleasant, did not help. Asclepias cryptoceras Wats. Attributed to "Cal." by Rydberg, Rocky Mt. Flora. cf. T.B. 36:164. See letters from J.K. Small and W.R. 28_105 [Species Attributed to Cal. [California] by Eastern Authors.] Phacelia gymnoclada Torr. Attributed to "California" by Tidestrom, Fl. Utah & Nev. [Flora of Utah & Nevada] It does not appear to be in Cal. [California] The early records are in the West Humboldt Mts. [Mountains], Winnemucca (Lemmon), Truckee Mts. [Mountains] (east of Pyramid lake) and Truckee Pass (lower Truckee River.) The two latter have nothing to [?do?] with present day Truckee [?sta?] in Cal. [California]. Grey says eastern California but he was ignorant of geography; so does Brand (Pflzr.) who is also ignorant of our local geography. Tidestrom followed Gray or Brand. It is possible the species occurs in Mono or Inyo counties, since Duran got it in northern White Mts. [Mountains] (in Nevada). |
