Stigmas 3, surrounding a pin-hole orifice leading down to ovary, stigmas each obscurely 2-lobed. No. 5444. Cereus [Echinocereus] mohavensis Engelm. & Bigel. Cactus barrel type with 8 or 9 ribs. Spines; a central one from a spreading cluster of 5 or 6. Pets. deep blood red. Stigmas 8, 10, 11, 10, green! Stamens crowded into center around style. Plant body 4 to 6 inches high. - Rhus trilobata! Nutt. No. 5445. Juniperus osteosperma Bark grayish, fissured, shreddy. Trunk 1/2 to 2 ft. diam. Limbs |
27_75 9 May 1913 ---------- 6 to 10 ft. h. - Pinus monophylla. Stand cut off on foothills, mainly. Trunks 1 ft. diam. - Salazaria mexicana. Dense clumps 4 ft. h. & 10 ft. broad. Very slender spiny but spines not hard. No. 5446. Mirabilis froebellii Greene. Nyctaginaceae. Stamens 5. Style coiled. 6 fls. in involucre which is large. Calyx rose-color, about 1 1/2 in long. (Forming great glorious bunches like a wash-tub below Ledge.) - Lyciumn andersonii, very floriferous. No. 5447. Calochortus Kennedyi Porter. Per. deep saffron yellow, a purple circular spot at base, a circular densely short-hairy cushiony gland in center of petal spot and upper portions of spot with hairs (glandular). Anthers purple. Sepals margined with white. Umbels mostly right down on ground. No. 5448. Lycium cooperi Gray. |
