No. 5323. Eriogonum maculatum Heller. Outer per. segs ovate, strongly concave, (the three a little like a 3-lobed capsule in shape), without tips, the acutish apices approximate about the protruded inner linear segments which are white-tipped. Per. greenish, the outer segs. with a large deep red spot in center. The outer segs. are much like concave valves of a 3-lobed capsule. Radical leaves rounded-ovate, plane, not revolute. Per. & invol. minutely gland-hispidulose.

No. 5324. Malvastrum Fendleri (Gray)_.] [Sphaeralcea ambigua Gray] Cor. bright brick-red. Anthers purple. Ovary densely short-hairy. Stamen column not double so far as determinable in the field. Half the fils. falling after becoming free from the tube. Sandy finely-gravelly soil. Flowers handsome. = S. ambigua Gray, not Fendleri.
No. 5325 Gilia mathewsii Gray. [= Langloisia Matthewsii (Gray) Greene] Cor. pink, 2 lipped, 5-lobed, the lobes oblong, equal, splotched with white near base. Three lobes in upper lip, 2 in lower lip, or four in upper lip and the fifth lobe central in lower lip. Upper lip spreading upward, the two lobes of lower lip spreading laterally. Calyx-lobes bristly outside and tipped with a single strong bristle. The upper lobes have a double pink arch [see image for drawing] so beneath the white splotch, if 4 lobes in upper lip the fourth usually not showing the arch or not so distinctly. = Langloisia matthewsii Greene.
