27_24 Berkeley ---------- - Eriogonum ochrocephalum Wats. Involucres 6 to 8-toothed! Invols. somewhat nerved, bladdery in age. Must, I suppose, go in Eueriogonum, altho it looks like the incanum group and has too many teeth for the Eueriogonums. Notes on Cusick 1930. - Eriogonum purpusi Brandegee Purpus 5484 type is same as Hall & Chandler's Independence 7297 The involucres of the Purpus plant break down the sinuses rather readily but I do not believe this has specific value. The two plants look exactly alike and have the same filiform peduncles. See p. 15. |
27_25 10 Apr. 1913. ---------- - Hickman, J.B. Called today. White-gray mustache and hair, genial and pleasant full features. Says Garrya fremontii fruit is full-grown now near Aromas, often not ripe until Aug., sometimes ripe in Nov. Pinus sabiniana cones not ripe until Feb. this year. Country drier even than the famous year of '66-'67. Lived first in that region in 1871; then was away 20 years. Sent plants to Kellogg, Bolander, Greene. "On returning to Monterey & San Benito Cos. found the flowery fields had disappeared under civilization." - Credi nihi, bene qui latuit, bene vixit. -- Ovid. - Eriogonum adsurgens Stokes. Warthan, Alice Eastwood, 11 May 1893. Perianth segs. 2 lines long, oblong or a little narrowed towards base. |
