where the trunk forks into 3 prongs, is 12 in. in longest diameter and 2 1/2 or 3 in. in shortest diameters. The bark is reddish brown, superficially checked into irregularly oblong scales 1/2 to 1 inch long which gradually exfoliate. -- Dec. 2, 1913.

- Ceanothus thyrsiflorus. Killed by fire. One of the first things to come in on Redwood cut-over lands and the most abundant. Associated with it are Vaccinium ovatum, & Myrica californica. Under this nurse the Redwood forest gradually comes back. In a mature Redwood forest there is no Ceanothus
