- Heller, A.A. Is here. Has an olive ranch of 20 A. betw. Chico & Oroville. Kennedy was here in summer and said that he was forced to let Heller out, that Heller instead of doing the work for which he had employed him, worked on his Catalog, on Muhlenbergia, on various things. Kennedy, says Hall, wanted Heller to talk to farmers, do experiment station work and so on. Heller says the Board of Regents let him out and that when he returned to Reno he found that both Kennedy and the President were very much suprised to know that it had occurred but that the Regents having done it, it could not be helped. Heller has sold his

herbarium to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. He means to continue Muhlenbergia apparently and to sell sets of plants. He is looking for another position -- All this from Hall, H.M. -- Heller came to lunch with me today, Oct. 18. He says his herb. sold to Brooklyn Bot. Gard contained 10,000 sheets. The olive ranch has 5 A. planted to olives. He has a lot of dupl. material left and where there were 2 sheets of a number he kept one. Heller is very mild and soft-spoken. One would never suspect from his conversation that he holds such strong ideas or views as control his actions, publications, etc.
