- Came to Vacaville, Tuesday morning July 29.
- North Wind. -- Clarence Uhl says that in his experience at Vacaville which must be about 30 yrs that the North Wind does not blow from July 1 to Sept 1. There was however an exception this year, during the hot spell early in July.

Excellent field knowledge of the Great Basin vegetation. However it would be out of keeping for an excellent botanist to have so many glaring personal faults. Sargent thought the N.Y. Bot. Gard. people were not so well-do financially as they had been led to hope. Sargent is being entertained at luncheon by P.E. Bowles, who is said to have a wide practical acquaintance with plants and cultivates a great variety of them at his Oakland home. He -over-
- Betel, of Colorado, a fungus man, was calling at the Academy.
- Suksdorf, W.N. is in western Cal. just now collecting thistles. I have not seen him, altho he called.
