- As I wandered thru the barrancas with their box-canon-like turns and angles a large gray-brown Coyote broke from a corner, terribly startled but not disturbing the stillness of the desert as he made off.
- Lycium cooperi, no. 5329, cont. from p. 35. Corollas very large, the lobes spreading rotately or mostly a little backwards, each lobe with revolute margins. Corolla white. Branches mostly at right angles. Shrub dense and intricate, 3-5 ft. h.
- Chorizanthe parryi, no. 5523 cont. from p. 92. Flowers numerous, spicate. Perianth white, its segments erosulate, the inner half as large. Involucral spines 3 large, 3 small. -- with no. 5522.
- Chorizanthe californica, no. 5522, cont. See p. 94. Flowers like Eriogonum spergulinum. Perianth white, its lobes broadly oblong, very obtuse. Involucres 3 at each node, mostly with 3 unequal teeth, sometimes with 4 in 2 equal pairs, or only 2. Perianth one to each involucre, its tube slender, a little exserted in anthesis. Anthers brown -- Sandy mesa, San B. amongst Opuntia, Salvia carduacea, etc.
