26_76 Parker, Colorado River. ---------- - An Indian came down the river with a tule boat, says a young riverman at Parker Ldg. It looked strange and we put our glasses on his craft. Looked almost as if he were just sitting on a box in the water. He afterwards tied up and we saw that it was a tule boat. The tules were collected so as to make a bundle or "log" so to speak, and then three [?] bundles were laid side by side and lashed together with willow bark thongs. Willow poles were then laid crosswise and lashed down. Then he put a box in the middle to sit on and there he was! Scirpus lacustris. No. 5232. 26_77 26 Oct. 1912. ---------- - We come now into the flat valley of the Colorado River Indian Reservation, land at Parker for daily papers, and go on down 2 miles and camp for the first time on the Cal-shore at 3:00. I objected to camping at this spot because the bank 5 ft. h. was caving heavily with loud reports but Rennie thought the particular spot where the Lotus stuck her nose against the beach all right. It seemed too dangerous in view of the warning I received. However the camp spot was ideal and a fine view of the distant mountain ranges in every direction. We took our kitchen stuff ashore and then I insisted on everything else coming out of the boat, even the oars! At 4 o'clock the next |
