26_32 Mohave River bed, Barstow 2100 ft. stems 1/2 to 3 ft. long, trailing over the ground with ascending branchlets. -- Rich low lands. Doves feed on the reeds. ---------- - No. 5175 cont. from p. 25 -- and rounded or convex back, the thin margins toothed with heavy [?] teeth on each side, the styles 2 and long. Where there are 2 inflated bracts, and these are usually 2, there are two female fls.; but if one inflated bract, then 1 female [?; see image for symbol.] fl. These inflated bracts subtend each one achene. From the centre of the cluster of male fls. arises one long slender bract which is greenish at tip and surpasses the corollas. Chrysopsis [Senecio douglasii DC.] Rays golden yellow; 13, 13, 12, 13; very long. River bed of Mohave. - Petalonyx thurberi, plants 10 to 20 in. h., 1 to 4 ft. broad -- Sandy River bed, Mohave. - No. 5188. Croton californicus Mull. Arg. var. mohavensis Ferg. Dove-weed.
