26_196 Bennet's Hill, Vacaville ---------- - Bennets Hill is quite gay with flowers -- even so early. There is an abundance of the first bloom of Brodiaea capitata. The upper slopes are bright red with the flowers of Red Maids (Calandrinia menziesii caulescens). Lepidium nitidum is in fruit. Sanicula bipinnatifida is in flower; Peucedanum caruifolium is in flower. Also Medicago denticulata, Lupinus micranthus, Amsinckia intermedia, Plagiobothrys sp., Orthocarpus erianthus, Fritillaria pluriflora, Senecio vulgaris ---------- The Big Freeze. Frank McKeirtt Jr. says the money loss in S. Cal. is 100 million dollars. See p. 177. |
26_197 22 Feb 1913 ---------- No. 5300. Microsteris gracilis (Hook.) Greene. Corolla pale pink, its lobes notched. Stamens unequally inserted in throat. -- Bennet Hill. No. 5301. Brassica arvensis (L.) BSP. Bennet Hill. Branching from base, 1 1/2 to 2 ft. h. [= B. kaber (DC.) Wheeler var. pinnatifida (Stokes) Wheeler] No. 5302. Brodiaea capitata Benth. [Dichelostemma pulchellum] Very abundant on Bennet Hill. No. 5303. Fritillaria pluriflora Torr. Perianth a beautiful pink, a darker lineate band down middle of segments from a little before apex to base. Stalks 1 to 7-flowered. Style entire. -- Bennett Hill, both on the side of the hill and the flat at base. ---------- - Condalia spathulata -- none in U.C. hb. from Calif. |
