- Climate. The Big Freeze of 1913. Cont. from p. 177. Parish in litt. says the January freeze in S. Cal. not at all exaggerated in the press. Newspaper statements put the damage at _20,000,000.00 to _40,000,000.00. Met P.S. Woolsey yesterday who says: -- Just come from a visit through S. Cal. The frost was terrible in its effects. All Eucalypti under 16 or 17 ft. h. frozen & killed, and tips of branches of older trees killed. All the avenues of Pepper Trees killed_!! Look like white haycocks! A dreadful sight. All orange trees under 5 yrs old killed

- Prunus ilicifolia. Mott says he collected this in the hills east of the Napa State Insane Hospital. He described it in such a way as to indicate that this was the species. It was used for greens in Christmas decoration at the hospital. This station would be only a short distance from my Cordelia station, perhaps ten miles in an air line & only a little north of it.

_ Feb. 24, on & about, for three days 6 inches rain fell at Los Angeles causing floods, etc. Heaviest rain in history of the section. In 24 hrs = 5.08 inches!!
