San Bernardino, 8 Nov. 1912.
----------
- Adenostoma fasciculatum. Chamise-covered hills a great feature between Beaumont and the San Bernardino valley. Pure stand.
- San Bernardino is a growing, very clean and very attractive city. Its business section is rather suprising to me, in its extent and the character of its buildings.
- Sweet Potatoes, production at Yuma: 1/2 acre = 7400 lbs! cf. Univ. Ariz. Agr. Exp. Sta. Timely Hints, no. 86.
----------
- Mesquite. Cf. art. by S.J. Holsinger, The Forester, vol. 8, p. 447.
----------
- William Murray. See mss sketch of his life by his daughter in litt., Letter File, 1912.

Vacaville, 10 Nov. 1912
----------
- Eschscholtzia californica. There have been heavy rains and the flowering, while rather scant now, is mostly golden yellow with yellow, or only a little yellow tips. Perhaps the color could be controlled by the use of water or proper irrigation.
----------
Berkeley Hills, Nov. 23.
No. 5298. Baccharis pilularis. Grows on both north and south slopes, but prefers northerly slopes or hollows. Mostly 3 or 4 ft. high, sometimes 5 ft. Top of Berkeley Hills, and all way down to Bancroft Way and Piedmont & Warring where there were formerly extensive colonies, & indeed a few of the original plants persist still.
