Cibola Valley, c. 220 ft. Imperial Co. ---------- - At the lower end of Palo Verde Valley is the Chocolate Range_, the first peak is near the river, bold and isolated, somewhat conical summit with 2 slopes on the west which are remarkably serrated as seen against the skyline. = Milpitas Mt! No. 5281a. Cucurbita palmata Wats. No. 5282. Aristida bromoides HBK. [adscensionis L.] Grass. Cibola Val., upper end, wash. No. 5283. Cladothrix oblongifolia acc. SBP. [Tidestromia oblongifolia (Wats.) Standl.] Sepals 5 with 5 stamens alt. with them. The stamens arise form the margin of a shortly ---------- _ I doubt this being the Chocolate Mts. Too far north.

2 Nov. 1912. ---------- cup-shaped disk with 5 short teeth alternating with the filaments. This flower is set in an involucre of 3 bracts which below are coherent to form a tube. Apparently more than one fl. to the invol. Plants annual, 12 to 15 in. h., 2 to 3 ft. broad. Somewhat mound-like. Cal shore. Camp of Nov. 2-3. Milpitas. cf. Parish in litt. Jepson Cor. 7:608 - Olneya tesota. Tree 6 ft. 8 in. circ. at smallest part of 4 ft. h. trunk, viz. at 1 ft. Crown 47 ft. wide in longest direction, 32 ft.h. The Ironwood is the finest and largest tree of the desert. It is the most heavily foliaged and its pleasant blue-green foliage reminds me constantly in aspect of the Blue Oak. I
