26_116 Lower Palo Verde Valley, c. ---------- - At Ehrenberg Ferry were three rather rough looking men, two of whom, Dale & Ward, owned the ferry. They looked as common and as ignorant as men of their station usually do. The older man, Dale, swore vulgarly at the cat and so on. Imagine then my suprise later in the evening to find that this man, living in a crude tent shack with dirt floor, was very well informed, had live and interesting ideas about world politics and especially the foreign relations of England and glibly quoting sayings of Lord Palmerston.
